AdSense Optimization

Here are a few tips for AdSense optimization.

  1. Ads placed in the top left corner and sandwich by content do best.

  2. Ads placed near rich contents and navigational aids do well because users are focused on those areas of the page.

  3. Focus on user behavior and tailor the placement of your ads to those behavior.

  4. There are always exceptions. Pages with recipes, articles or other long bodies of text do well with ads placed at the bottom.

  5. Wider ads perform best. This is because it lets users read more of the text without returning to the left margin everytime.

  6. The best ad format are:
    - 300x250 inline rectangle
    - 336x280 large rectangle
    - 160x600 wide skyscraper

  7. A 300x250 size ad above the fold (top half) can capture more rich media (image and video) advertising campaigns from Google's premium advertisers.

  8. Ads should blend with your page to get the best CTR. If the ads contrast too much with your site, it will create ad blindness. It is most effective to have a few different color palette sets that blend with your site and to rotate through these palettes so as to minimize ad blindness.

  9. Put ads on as many pages as possible.
